myUsearch.com To Challenge Biased College Search Sites

Online college search service will provide matches based on student needs, not school advertising budgets.

Boulder, CO (PRWEB) April 10, 2008 -- Choosing a college is one of life's most difficult decisions. Amidst the torrent of family pressure, academic stress, financial burdens, and time constraints, prospective students already deal with enough. The internet should make this decision easier, but the booming college recruiting market has led to an increase in biased for-profit sites that prey on the curiosity of college seekers.

To combat this, myUsearch, LLC has announced the official launch of its online college matching service. The myUsearch Smart Questionnaire determines the needs of students in order to accurately match them with any of the 3,400+ colleges in the company's database. The unbiased process will only connect students to schools they objectively match with, and 10 percent of profits will be directed to the company's scholarship program.

This college matching service was developed in response to a growing number of web portals called Online Education Directories. These sites lure students in order to collect and sell the students' contact information. While the sites claim to provide a college matching service, they ask very few questions to determine the needs of the student and list only schools that pay for a listing. Because of increased demand from schools, credit card and student loan companies, these sites can sell the names of these students for up to 15 to 100 dollars per name. With numbers like these, the sites have little incentive to provide a good service to prospective students.

"Finding the right college is extremely difficult," says myUsearch President, Derek Kraus. "It's a shame that these sites recommend any school willing to pay a few bucks for a listing. Not only are they doing a disservice to the students, but our colleges and universities are wasting millions of dollars marketing to students that have no interest in their institution."

The company will provide the names of matching colleges regardless of their willingness to pay for a listing and allow only the schools that match the students' criteria to contact them. Additionally, students have the ability to prevent any undesirable match from recruiting them. With this honest and objective process, students will receive no solicitations from colleges they have no interest in, and colleges can greatly reduce their cost of recruiting these students. myUsearch hopes this process will help colleges re-direct their efforts to what matters most -- Education.
