We are excited to partner with CollegeWeekLive through this new event, CollegeWeekLive TRANSFER DAY, to reach out to prospective transfer students.
Boston, MA (Vocus) September 30, 2010
CollegeWeekLive, the leading web destination that brings students and colleges together live online, today announced CollegeWeekLive TRANSFER DAY, a special one-day event on Thursday, February 3rd, 2011. According to the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) roughly 2.5 million students transfer each year. This free online event is designed to outline steps in the transfer process and connect potential transfer students with higher education institutions.
Approximately 42 percent of students from two-year or community colleges transfer to four-year institutions each year and about 23 percent of all college seniors at four-year institutions have transferred at some time in their career, according to the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Many students today choose to attend a two-year community college for financial reasons before transferring to a four-year college or university.
Through live streaming video presentations featuring admissions experts and real-time Q&A, CollegeWeekLive TRANSFER DAY will address the steps in the college transfer process: what academic credentials are required prior to a college transfer, what happens during the college transfer, and acclimation for the student after college transfer is complete.
“CollegeWeekLive events provide UC Santa Cruz with a great opportunity to communicate with local, national and International students,” said Ebony Lewis, Associate Director of Admissions for University of California, Santa Cruz. “We are excited to partner with CollegeWeekLive through this new event, CollegeWeekLive TRANSFER DAY, to reach out to prospective transfer students."
At CollegeWeekLive TRANSFER DAY, students can chat live with admissions representatives from a wide range of hundreds of colleges and universities, including Ivy League institutions, large public and small private universities and regional leaders in higher education. In addition to speaking with college admissions officers, attendees can also browse information on more than $2.5 million in financial aid and scholarships from participating higher education institutions.
"After participating in CollegeWeekLive SPRING, I can see how an event like TRANSFER DAY would benefit the many community college students who seek to transfer to four-year universities,” said Michael Medel, Coordinator of Admissions Outreach Services for Santa Barbara Community College. “Transfer students are always hard pressed for time, and virtual fairs fit right into their schedule and allow them to meet and learn more about prospective schools in a very convenient and efficient way."
With the addition of CollegeWeekLive TRANSFER DAY, CollegeWeekLive now offers a schedule of events throughout the academic year that meets the needs of both college-bound students and college admissions offices. CollegeWeekLive FALL in early November helps high school seniors finalize the list of schools to which they will apply, while CollegeWeekLive SPRING in late March each year enables high school sophomore and juniors to kick off the college research process. CollegeWeekLive INTERNATIONAL DAY in December addresses the unique needs of the non-U.S. citizen applying to college. Additional topical days, such as CollegeWeekLive PAYING FOR COLLEGE, detail financing strategies for high school seniors and their parents, while CollegeWeekLive TEST PREP readies sophomores and juniors for standardized testing for college admissions. CollegeWeekLive also features more than sixty virtual open houses throughout the year that showcase specific colleges.
