COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., May 23, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The U.S. military is comprised of millions of men and women, and each year hundreds of thousands of them receive Permanent Change of Station (PCS) orders. This means that they and their families must relocate at a moment's notice. "This can put quite a strain on military families, as they have to suddenly uproot and transition to a new life in another town or city," said Lane, who is part of the RE/MAX Properties Military First program.
Lane lists the following three tips to help military families that have received PCS orders transition:
No. 1: Line up housing for the new PCS. "Whether you choose to live on or off base, acting fast and getting a place lined up sooner rather than later will put your mind at ease," noted Lane. "You should also contact the family center at your new base, which can offer relocation assistance programs that provide moving information to you and your family."
No. 2: Schedule your move ASAP after receiving the PCS order. Doing so will give you a better chance of requesting the move-out/move-in dates you want. "Once your move is scheduled, it is imperative to start getting your belongings organized for the movers," added Lane. "To ensure the process is smooth, label boxes with color-coded stickers. For example, use red stickers on boxes that will go in bedroom one at your new house, then put a red sticker on the door of bedroom one. This helps make the process go by faster and relieves the huge headache of opening each box with the movers to find out where everything goes."
No. 3: Find a qualified local Realtor. "A reputable local Realtor will have insider knowledge, working relationships with lenders and listings that buyers will most likely not be able to find on their own," concluded Lane.
