Comdata Corporation, a leading provider of point-of-sale (POS) equipment in the retail fuel market, recently surpassed a significant product milestone. More than 1,000 of the company’s Smart Solutions products have been installed in truck stops and convenience stores across the country.

Smart Solutions from Comdata are a suite of products designed specifically for the fuel business. The POS devices streamline the fuel transaction process by consolidating diesel, gasoline and retails profit centers into one platform. The installation of more than 1,000 POS systems signifies the equipment’s acceptance and reputation in the industry. Product benefits such as touchscreen technology, acceptance of fleet and consumer credit cards, and end-of-shift reporting capabilities make Smart Solutions a desirable option for both chain and independent truck stop and c-store owners.

“Exceeding the milestone of having 1,000 point-of-sale machines in truck stops and convenience stores around the country is a testament to how Comdata’s Smart Solutions products are meeting the needs of the retail fuel market,” said Randy Morgan, executive vice president of Comdata.

Long-time Comdata customer Mark Augustine is president of Triplett, Inc. and owns nine truck stops along I-70 in Kansas marketed as 24/7 Travel Stores. He recently purchased one of the POS machines that helped Comdata eclipse the one-thousandth sale mark. Augustine upgraded his stores’ aging technology and installed SmartDESQ, Comdata’s flagship Smart Solutions product, at one of his truck stops.

Augustine has recognized the benefit of the Comdata equipment to his business almost immediately. In addition to allowing pay-at-the-pump capabilities on gas and diesel pumps, “SmartDESQ is driving efficiencies at the fuel desk for both my customers and employees,” he said.

Augustine said the implementation of the POS in his first location was so successful, he has plans to install SmartDESQ in a second location this month and will eventually install the equipment in all nine of his 24/7 Travel Stores.

With more than 20 years of experience in the retail fuel industry, Comdata launched its Smart Solutions products in 2009. Since then, the company has expanded its suite of merchant solutions beyond POS equipment to include fuel pumps, outside payment terminals and cardless fueling technology.
