In today’s economic climate, it is rare that a new business opens, yet that is precisely what has happened with the opening of Island City Café, a new restaurant in Alameda. The owners, Ken and Peggie Dorance, are veterans in owning businesses as they formerly owned the successful Video Station. They also own Papa Murphy’s Pizza. After 29 years in the video business, the husband and wife team wanted to explore new challenges and decided to expand their reach into the restaurant business.

Island City Cafe opened on August 2 and has already been a success in the community because of its delicious menu consisting of great sandwiches, soups and salads. In addition to their own menu, they have added Vienna Beef Hot Dogs and pizza slices from their other business, Papa Murphy’s Pizza. They have also decided to add draft beer and wine to their menu.

The menu consists of plenty of comfort foods, made with the highest standards in ingredients such as certified Angus Beef, natural turkey, low sodium natural ham, homemade tuna and chicken salads and Vienna beef. Their bread comes from Bordenave’s, a bakery in San Rafael that bakes fresh bread every night and delivers the bread seven days per week.

“Come join us for lunch or a light dinner. You can even enjoy our fresh brewed coffee or iced tea, try one of our delicious beers or a glass of wine. We also have soft drinks, serving Coca-Cola products, and customers will enjoy sitting down in our beautiful dining room,” said Ken and Peggie Dorrance, owners of Island City Cafe.
