Collectible Company Honors Fallen Soldier with Special Edition Santa

Small business owner Dan Sherman recently released a commemorative Special Edition collectible Santa designed as a daily reflection for people who have lost someone in American's wars. The figurine, made entirely in the USA is a military Santa taking a moment of silence over the headstone of a fallen soldier, which can be customized to the purchaser's specifications.

Wilsonville, OR (PRWEB) November 5, 2008 -- Dan Sherman, owner of Great American Collectibles, has always felt a strong sense of patriotism having served 12 years in the United States Air Force.

So when he heard the story of a fallen soldier from one of Great American's many collectors, Sherman was moved to do something.

Great American's main line of collectibles is a carved resin, folk art Old World Santa. Seven characters are released each year.

"We knew Heath's death was just one of thousands that have touched millions of lives," said Sherman, referring to the nephew of a Great American collector, "so we decided to do an Old World Santa that could serve as a daily reflection for folks that have lost their family and/or friends to war."

This year's Special Edition Santa is named Shane Claus, named after the first U.S. casualty in the Iraq War, 1st Lt Shane Childers. Dressed in military dress blues, Shane Claus is a powerful image, his head bows slightly as he stands alongside the headstone of a fallen soldier. The name on the headstone can be customized to match that of a personal loved one. If no name is given in the order process, the company chooses a name for the customer. Retail price for Shane Claus is $70.

Great American is in a unique position to release a product that requires customized painting for each figurine ordered. They are one of only a few remaining American resin figurine manufacturers of their size still choosing to manufacture and hand paint their collectibles entirely within the United States. Headquartered in Wilsonville, Oregon, Great American Collectibles has been making carved resin Old World Santas since 1988.

Each year, new characters are released to over 20,000 collectors worldwide. Each Santa is "from" a different country and come with a story printed on a card. They can be viewed at www.gr8american.com.
