We expected a lot from our crews on this job and they delivered,” Yarbrough said.

Four months after a tornado ripped through the town of Ringgold, Georgia – leaving a swath of destruction in its path – Whitco Roofing is putting the finishing touches on Ringgold Middle School’s new roof.

“Ringgold Middle School was one of the more challenging projects our company has taken on,” said Thomas R. Yarbrough, Senior Project Manager of the Atlanta-based commercial roofing company.

Whitco was given a deadline of just over six weeks to completely tear off the school’s damaged roofing and decking, before installing 90,000-square feet of new roofing and various deck types over the entire campus.

The work began the last week of June and is now nearing completion.

With dozens of other work crews – from painters to electricians - waiting for the roof’s completion in order to begin their work inside the middle school, pressure was on Whitco from day one.

Now, most of that pressure has gone. By next weekend, Whitco expects the project to be complete.

Aside from the challenging time constraints, Whitco faced another obstacle as it took on the task of rescuing Ringgold Middle School’s roof.

“The amount of damage to the existing roof was incredible,” Yarbrough said.
Large areas of the roof had collapsed and other areas had been pelted with flying debris from the tornado, making the roof-top an obstacle course from the first day of the project.

Excessive rainfall and scorching weather was also a constant challenge for the more than 30 employees Whitco had working on the school.

The alternating crews worked day and night, seven days a week.

“We expected a lot from our crews on this job and they delivered,” Yarbrough said. “They understood the importance of what they were involved in. We are all proud to be a part of this project.”

Whitco Roofing was proud to lend a helping hand in rebuilding the great community of Ringgold, GA. Knowing what the city of Ringgold has gone through, it is great to see it recovering so quickly.
