COMMON, LLC, a global collaborative brand and startup accelerator for socially conscious businesses, announces the appointment of Dan Burrier, formerly of Ogilvy & Mather, as Chief Executive Officer. Burrier’s role is effective immediately, and in partnership with Mark Eckhardt, Chief Operating Officer.

“Dan is a builder of global brands, a proven business guy and he has a personal philosophy rooted in social consciousness,” says Alex Bogusky, co-founder of COMMON, which nurtures, connects and celebrates inventors committed to conjuring up desirable, ethical, affordable and sustainable brands and business solutions for an eager and growing consumer market. “That’s the type of leadership COMMON needs,” Bogusky theorizes. “Shifting the capitalist model from short-term extraction of wealth to one of mutual benefit is a tricky, iterative, uncharted thing to do, but I'm confident Dan and Mark are the ones to get it done.”

“We have our starting lineup now,” says COMMON co-founder Rob Schuham. “Dan is a guy with a 360-degree marketing acumen who's very aligned with our worldview.”

At Ogilvy & Mather, Burrier held titles ranging from Chief Innovation Officer of North America to Chief Creative Officer and Co-President of OgilvyWest. His global clients included Cisco (the “Human Network” campaign), Motorola (“HelloMoto”), IBM, Perrier and Cotton. That’s an impressive CV by anyone’s standards, but Burrier’s bond with the COMMON crew went beyond paper and out to the Boulder brotherhood…

“The natural match between our desires to shake up how success and wealth are defined and our culture’s overall relationship to money is nothing short of phenomenal,” Burrier noted. “When we sat down in Boulder—Alex and Rob rode their bikes to the meeting, I ran the Mesa Trail after—that was that, the fit was obvious. We have a t-shirt that says it all: ‘Do shit that matters.’ That’s the core of our business, our intention and vision. It’s simple stuff.”

Launched in January of 2011 by Rob Schuham, John Bielenberg and Alex and Ana Bogusky, COMMON offers collaborative services and community to socially conscious startups. These include marketing, strategy, communications and financial support through mentorship programs, COMMON Pitch events, COMMON MBAs (Maniacal Business Attacks) and access to the participants in the COMMON ecosystem.
