Based on data collected by CompareMyMobile around the release of the iPad 4 and original iPad Mini last year, the site believe that consumers need to trade-in old devices quickly. Following the release of the devices on 2nd November 2012, iPad models saw a drop of up to 11.11 percent in trade-in value, due to the huge number of iPad tablets being sent into recyclers.

Top five Apple iPad models that lost value following the reveal of the iPad 4:

iPad 3 Wi-Fi 4G 32GB – 11.11 percent*
iPad WiFi 64GB – 10.18 percent*

iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G 64GB – 5.36 percent*
iPad 3 Wi-Fi 16GB – 3.85 percent*

*Percentage value lost between before the reveal to two weeks following the release, according to site data from CompareMyMobile.com

This was a price loss of up to 40 GBP on existing models, within less than a month of the reveal of the iPad 4.

The site believe this set of events could occur again this year, as a swarm of consumers upgrade to the latest Apple iPad devices. UK recyclers are forced to reduce the price offered for these tablets in order to cope with recycling exit routes.

CompareMyMobile advises consumers to start comparing trade-in prices now to avoid losing money – as iPad tablets are currently holding their value well, only losing 1.83 percent of their trade-in value in the last 90 days.
