Head Over Heels Athletic Arts Offers Gratitude to The Safeway Foundation

Emeryville, CA (PRWEB) April 01, 2013

Head Over Heels Athletic Arts’ Competitive Girls Team traveled to San Diego on the weekend of January 25-27 to attend the San Diego Classic Gymnastics Meet. The competition was a great success with both the Level 8 and Level 9 teams placing first in their divisions, as well as many individuals earning high scores. To celebrate the young athletes, along with their coaches and parents, went to the San Diego Zoo to enjoy the rest of the day before heading to the airport. Upon returning to the parking lot they found that one of the rented passenger vans had been broken into. Several backpacks and carryon bags had been stolen.

The backpacks contained the girls’ competition leotards and warm up suits, their grips and wrist guards, and all of their homework, personal items and good luck charms. “It was such an incredible weekend to have been ruined by such a mean act,” stated Mikaela Brady, one of Head Over Heels’ competitive team coaches. “I’m sure the thieves just threw everything away once they realized what was in the backpacks. What use would they have with little girls’ leotards, their winning medals, and their lucky stuffed animals?”

Jacky Carlton, mother of one of the team girls, informed The Safeway Foundation of the loss. The girls were to compete at the two competitions including the WOGA Classic in Texas. The loss of the grips and other equipment was a devastating loss. The upcoming competitions would not have been possible without everything being replaced immediately. The Safeway Foundation came to the rescue with an emergency grant for $1,000. Within the week, all the equipment was replaced. The Head Over Heels Girls’ Team has gone on to win at WOGA which propelled their Level 8 team into the number one spot in the country.
