In early 1996, The Stamp Store established its Web site at Thestampstore.com, making it a pioneer in concrete classes and selling its wares online. Later that year, the company began offering contractors a hands-on concrete training class series called Deminars™ that are offered on a quarterly basis.
The Stamp Store is excited with the wide group of people their concrete class series is attracting. “Major manufacturers of concrete products are either on the West or East Coast. The Stamp Store’s central Midwest location makes it easier and faster to reach dyi home owners and contractors as well as international clients,” says Doug Bannister, the owner of The Stamp Store.
The concrete class series, which was among the industry's first, has always been limited to 12 students and has attracted contractors from as far away as New Zealand, Egypt, China and England. As part of the curriculum, students pile into passenger vans that take them to actual job sites. There attendees help with everything from integral coloring, stencils and stamps to stains, countertops and overlays. Today, most of the demos are held on the property, but they still include going to different job sites.
The newest concrete countertop class, Do It Yourself EZ-Top, debuts on October 15, 2010. It teaches attendees how to use a micro topping system on top of ordinary existing laminate and tile countertops, transforming them into beautiful, one of a kind and hard wearing concrete countertops. The specially formulated SS Specialties countertop overlay system, SS Ez-Top, is specifically designed for the do it yourself home owner. It is made to be durable and wear resistant. With premeasured materials and easy step by step project guides, do it yourself home owners save money while creating professional style decorative concrete countertops without the demolition or added weight normally associated with these types of projects.
Headquartered in Oklahoma City, The Stamp Store was founded by Doug Bannister. Over the years, his business has grown from basic installation to offering decorative concrete work. The Stamp Store was started as a side business but soon, he recalls, he had to make a choice. “I was spending 40 hours with installation and hours at the store.” Something had to give, so he let go of the installation business. Sales, which had already been climbing took off. Business has continued to grow giving the company the opportunity to develop new products lines that now cover the decorative concrete spectrum.
