Lane End Conference Centre has carried out major lighting refurbishments to further enhance the meeting room facilities for its delegates.

They now enjoy more natural daylight and state of the art illumination in all five conference buildings across the 26-acre site.

Lighting is vitally important for conference venues but has changed dramatically as presentation technology has evolved.

Decades ago, event bookers wanted conference centres with smaller windows to avoid glare on their overhead projectors.

But now today’s new generation of plasma screens are better suited to training and conference venues with better natural lighting. Lane End has large screens throughout the centre.

Good lighting is vitally important at a conference centre. That is why a purpose built venue such as Lane End will always be better than a general hotel.

According to New York’s Lighting Research Center, light not only affects our ability to see but it also regulates the body’s rhythms such as the sleep/wake cycle.

Buckinghamshire-based Lane End Conference Centre chose Hacel Lighting, Newcastle, for the recent refurbishment of its facilities.

Lane End’s Deputy Manager and Head of Facilities Mark Lishman spoke with various lighting companies across the UK before deciding on Hacel Lighting.

He said: “It was not only the quality and design of the product that was important in our decision-making process but also the level of assistance and degree of knowledge and understanding demonstrated.”

The brief for Hacel Lighting was simple – the lighting solution should enhance the natural daylight during the day and create a sense of natural light during the evenings because many delegates continue to work in the meeting rooms at night.

Hacel, which has 35 years of expertise in lighting, recommended a mix of energy-efficient T5 fluorescent units with dimmers to give room users complete control of their illumination.

The team used computers to calculate the precise lux levels required for each room.

Hacel Lighting Engineer Alex Jones said: “In areas where users will be doing a lot of reading and writing we have used louvre systems to minimise glare and maximise light output.”

Another part of the refurbishment work at Lane End involved creating more windows to let more natural daylight into its conference rooms.

The refurbishments have included higher ceilings and new larger windows at Lane End’s Wycombe Court and Wycombe Hall buildings plus new floor-to-ceiling glass doors that open from the Wycombe Hall dining room on to a new deck that overlooks the grounds.

All the meeting and training rooms at Lane End Conference Centre now have plenty of windows providing ample natural light.

Lane End Sales and Marketing Manager Heni Fourie said: “We provide a specialist venue with fully equipped facilities that are conducive to learning and development so the level of natural light is a very important element of our meeting and training rooms.”

It will become even more important now the clocks have gone back by an hour to Greenwich Mean Time and the evenings are becoming darker.

Lane End has also enhanced its conference venues with the addition of new superfast broadband throughout the centre.

Lane End’s broadband has been rated as Grade A+ (UK top one per cent) with speeds of at least 92Mb/second.

The latest refurbishments at Lane End coincided with the launch of the centre’s new website.

To celebrate the launch, Lane End has been giving away red-soled shoes from celebrated French designer Christian Louboutin. The offer will run until November. Please see the new website for more information.

Lane End offers residential conference facilities and teambuilding activities at a stunning countryside location only 60 minutes from the centre of London and the capital’s major airports.

The Pavilion at Lane End is also one of the few wedding venues in Buckinghamshire to be licensed for outdoor civil ceremonies.
