Digital Television Trumps Analog: The Countdown Has Started
ConnectMyCable.com Talks about the End of the Analog TV Era
Houston, TX (PRWEB) April 4, 2008 -- ConnectMyCable.com, an interactive online service that helps consumers connect their television service, informs consumers about the upcoming nationwide mandatory switch from analog to digital television.
The FCC has stated that as of February 17, 2009 all over-the-air-broadcasting must convert to an all-digital format.
The new digital or DTV format will give consumers:
- Digital picture quality free of ghosts and snow that usually plagues analog signals
- Multiple programming through multi-channel streams
The analog channels will be used for public safety such as police, fire and emergency rescue and advanced wireless services. Consumers who currently subscribe to satellite or cable service will most likely not be affected by the switch. Those who will lose their television signal are those who rely on analog over-the-air stations; however, consumers don't have to rush out and buy HDTVs if they don't want to. Converter boxes are available to change the analog signal into digital.
The National Telecommunications and Information Administration began issuing $40 gift cards in January 2008 to help consumers with the purchase of the converter. Those coupons are on a first come first serve basis.
