We plan for our behavioral health team to double in size by the end of this year, says Amy Gentile, Vice President.

Consilium Staffing, Your Partner in Locum Tenens, is increasing the size of their behavioral health team to meet the rapidly growing needs of mental health facilities across the country.

Representatives from the firm’s Behavioral Health team recently exhibited at the American Psychiatric Association’s 167th annual meeting in New York City. More than thirty-five thousand psychiatrists belong to the organization, many of whom attended the event, which featured an address from Vice President Joe Biden focusing on the country’s current agenda to raise awareness and resources for the mental health sector.

Last December, the U.S. government allocated an additional $100 million to improve and expand community health centers and mental health facilities in rural America. Therefore, as access to treatment for these conditions is expanded, so is the need for a larger staff of mental health providers to meet patient demand, including psychiatrists, psychologists and psychiatric nurse practitioners. Many healthcare organizations are already beginning to meet this need with locum tenens physicians.

“We plan for our behavioral health team to double in size by the end of this year,” says Amy Gentile, Vice President. “Some facilities will meet their psychiatric staff requirements through locum tenens in order to avoid a loss of funding.”

Historically, medical insurance providers have failed to cover many mental health services in the same way they covered physical ailments. However, they are also now being called upon to recognize and support the treatment of such illnesses as depression, addiction, autism, and post-traumatic stress disorder, just to name a few. These conditions affect millions of Americans of all ages, including our men and women in uniform returning home after their active military service has ended.
