Every day we hear tremendous stories about the role that locum tenens plays in the lives of our physician and facility partners, as well as the lives of the patients that they all serve.

Consilium Staffing, known as “Your Partner in Locum Tenens,” initiated a new program to gather and share the stories of physicians, mid-level providers and the facilities that use locum tenens.
Matt Baade, Executive Vice President for Consilium, said, “Every day we hear tremendous stories about the role that locum tenens plays in the lives of our physician and facility partners, as well as the lives of the patients that they all serve. We believe it is important that these stories are shared with others.”
Physicians and nurse practitioners who have worked in a locums capacity are encouraged to share their experiences. For some this will mean sharing why they got into the locum tenens business to begin with. For others this will mean sharing their experiences while working in a locums position, including how that experience has impacted the lives of patients in the community and how the locums experience has impacted their own lives.
“Some of our physicians get into locums as a lifestyle choice. They love the freedom and flexibility that a locums career offers. Others choose locums to make a difference in communities that don’t have the medical care they need. Whatever the reason for entering locums, the result is often a story worth telling,” said Baade. “Sometimes the story will tug at your heartstrings. Sometimes the stories will make you laugh. And sometimes the stories will make you want to go out and ‘pass it on’ and do something good for your own community.”
Representatives of hospitals and other healthcare facilities are also encouraged to share their stories. In many cases these facility representatives are in a unique position to portray the impact that a locum’s physician can have at a hospital and clinic, and how that impact can ripple through the entire community.
“We know that locum tenens is an important part of the health care system, particularly as the physician shortage in the United States continues to grow. In launching this new project, we feel it is important to give a voice to those who use locum tenens and who work in a locums capacity, and to give them an opportunity to tell their story,” said Baade.
Anyone wishing to share a story can do so by going to Consilium Staffing’s website. From the homepage you can click the button for “Tell us your Locum story…” Once submitted, a Consilium representative will contact the author or the story for verification, and with permission of the author the story will be shared via Consilium’s blog.
The term, "locum tenens" is a Latin phrase that means to "hold the place of." Consilium Staffing assists hospitals, primary care offices, urgent care centers, correctional institutions, and other healthcare facilities, when those facilities are under-staffed by partnering with physicians, nurse practitioners, and/or physician assistants who are able to provide coverage on a temporary or contract basis.
