Bowie & Jensen is pleased to announce that Lisa D. Sparks has joined the firm as an associate in the construction practice. Recognized as an up and coming leader in the construction law field, Ms. Sparks has extensive experience in government contracting, Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) contracting and a deep knowledge of the issues developers and builders face. Ms. Sparks is licensed in Maryland and Virginia and her addition to the firm adds depth and breadth to firm’s construction practice.

Ms. Sparks focuses on commercial litigation, including construction law and employment matters. She has worked on a variety of matters in both state and federal courts and in mediation and arbitration. Ms. Sparks has also advised clients on contracts, compliance, and government certification.
Prior to joining Bowie & Jensen, Ms. Sparks had an outstanding career in the construction, surety, and real estate areas at Whiteford, Taylor, & Preston, LLP. Her experience includes representing owners, contractors, subcontractors, and design professionals in connection with a variety of public and private projects, and handling litigation, bid protests, mechanics liens, bond claims, contract matters, and minority and women owned business issues.
As a LEED Accredited Professional, Ms. Sparks has a particular interest in green building and sustainable business practices. A native of Baltimore, she has taught Legal Research and Writing courses and lectured in other subjects in the paralegal studies program in the School of Justice at the Community College of Baltimore County and will be returning to the University of Baltimore School of Law as an adjunct professor of Commercial Law in Fall 2011.
