The Perfect Storm - Construction Style

e-Builder to host Webinar on the results of the FMI/CMAA eighth annual survey of owners.

Ft. Lauderdale, FL (PRWEB) December 9, 2007 -- e-Builder, a provider of web-based capital project management software, will host a presentation led by Mr. Mark Bridgers and Marisé Mikulis, consultants with FMI Management Consultants who will discuss the results of FMI/CMAA's Eighth Annual Survey of Owners during a one-hour webcast on Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. EST. An electronic copy of the report will be provided to attendees before the event. To register, please visit https://www1.gotomeeting.com/register/521097021.

Mr. Bridgers and Ms. Mikulis will highlight how this joint research project provides insights that help industry professionals better understand the owners' current point of view, and how the process of construction and collaboration among industry players is impacted by technology. Mr. Jonathan Antevy, CEO and co-founder of e-Builder will moderate the session. Mr. Antevy will also share additional insights developed after years of helping corporate owners improve business processes through the use of project management solutions.

Mr. Bridgers' expertise includes work with owners or purchasers of construction contracting services in the areas of organizational analysis, construction cost management, accounting and financial issues, and strategy development. He brings over 15 years of construction industry experience, including financial engineering, surety bonding, and reinsurance experience. Marisé Mikulis applies her 25 years within the global energy sector to guide owners and contractors in the areas of strategic planning, alliance/team performance, technology optimization and business development.

With owners meeting today's industry drivers by expanding their use of collaborative construction processes -- program management, design/build, etc.-- the 2007 Survey of Owners focused on Information Technology and its impact enabling these collaborative processes. The report outlines trends and best practices with regard to both proven and innovative technologies, e.g., Building Information Modeling (BIM), to accelerate the transformation of Construction. The analysis is based on more than 200 international and North American responses.

Among the highlights of note:

  • Owners apply technologies in a way that has limited observable impact, making financial or productivity-based justifications for their use difficult
  • Nearly 25% of respondents do not know how much information technology related spending takes place on individuals projects to support achieving project objectives
  • 74% of respondents who are currently BIM users would be likely or very likely to recommend use of BIM systems
  • Respondents identified improved communication an collaboration among project participants as the greatest benefit of BIM
  • 79% of the time owners hire construction manager, program manager and other resources to support capital program delivery - CM and PM use is increasing versus past owner studies
  • BIM users are much more likely to hire a construction or program manager to support the delivery of their program.
