San Diego, Calif. (Vocus/PRWEB) March 31, 2011
As construction, remodeling, and housing development companies across the country are still struggling to stay afloat, a company in San Diego is working to increase their expertise in the market to incorporate local trends. A well-known San Diego construction and design company encourages growth and education of their staff members, and now has an NCIDQ certified Interior Designer. Emily Renze, of Smith Brothers Construction, recently passed the two-day certification test to be a qualified interior designer in the United States.
Cheryl Kellogg Smith, part owner, expresses her excitement about Renze’s new certification, “We’re a team that works together every step of the way. It’s great to have a certified interior designer in house, and we’re thrilled about Emily’s determination, enthusiasm, and ability.”
The NCIDQ is a not-for-profit, private organization committed to ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of the public through their certification program. By incorporating art and science, interior designers are responsible for understanding people’s behavior and preferences in order to create a functional space.
Aspiring professionals with a Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design (or accredited Architect program) must work under a qualified interior designer for two years before becoming eligible to apply for the test. After accepted, applicants generally have four months to study, followed by two days of testing. The first day consists of eight hours of multiple choice questions, and the second day requires nine hours of hand drafting.
Since 1974, more than 25,000 interior design professionals have earned the NCIDQ certification; those that opt for the prep course are 60% more likely to pass than those who do not.
