Santa Cruz, CA (PRWeb) March 22, 2007 -- Today, Peter Mackeonis, founder of SPAMFRIT.ORG, the spam-free initiative site, published an open letter to businesswoman and celebrity interviewer, Oprah Winfrey, asking her to stop sending him spam and to join him in convincing others from sending spam as well.

Celebrity status does not give individuals the right to send spam, and neither does being a corporate household name. Bi-weekly invites to attend an Oprah show are just as annoying as a sure fire penny stock tip, a come-on to receive a free iPod, a Circuit City gift card, or discounted fake Viagra
"Celebrity status does not give individuals the right to send spam, and neither does being a corporate household name. Bi-weekly invites to attend an Oprah show are just as annoying as a sure fire penny stock tip, a come-on to receive a free iPod, a Circuit City gift card, or discounted fake Viagra," said Mackeonis. He continued, "It's no secret that spam is estimated to account for up to 90% of all email delivered, and is the equivalent of junk mail being delivered to everyone's doorstep upwards of a hundred times a day. And, up till now, we have all been powerless to stop it; all anyone could do is purchase a spam filter that takes time to set up and maintain, and, which often filters out wanted email." Mackeonis believes that the time has come for people to become proactive against the spam problem.

Mackeonis has adopted a pacifistic, almost Gandhi-like, approach to spam: ask the senders not to send it, and the recipients not to respond to it, and, it will go away naturally. Then, if that fails, he will ask consumers to boycott the products that spammers are promoting. "But I hope that it will not come to that, as I suspect that both celebrities and corporate offenders will stop sending spam once they realize that spam not only turns people off to their products, but also damages their reputations," Mackeonis concluded.

Peter's open letter to Oprah can be found at http://www.spamfrit.org/lettertooprah.html), and he invites Oprah as well as other interested celebrities and corporations to contact him on 831.840.3729 to discuss what they can do to help stop spam.
