Worried about a Pressing Issue? Want
to See All Sides?
Opposing Views Brings Together
Experts, Opinion Leaders To Debate Important Issues, Help Consumers
Become Informed, Make Decisions
LOS ANGELES (Business Wire EON/PRWEB ) July 24, 2008 --
Want to see all sides of issues and topics you’re
concerned about? At Opposing Views,
more than 100 well-known organizations and leading experts face off on
the many sides of pressing issues in health, politics, finance, religion
and other societal topics – debating real
issues, head to head.
www.opposingviews.com is the
only place consumers can get a well-rounded look at the topics they care
about. The site’s debate format allows
consumers to see the key points being made by different experts on a
particular issue, form an opinion and make better-informed decisions.
Opposing Views’ point/counterpoint format
makes searching for answers easy and the site is very interactive.
Consumers can see videos that further elaborate on the questions,
comment on issues, vote on the discussion, rate the debate and gather
more information on the expert or the topic at the responder’s
site. In the near future, consumers will also be able to directly ask
experts their own questions and add their own comments.
More than 100 organizations are currently providing content for the beta
site, including Sierra Club, People
for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), Amnesty
International, Lifeway
Christian Resources, National
Abortion Federation, Lambda
Legal and the National Rifle Association
(NRA).
Multiple points of view are presented on every topic and issues are
separated into sections labeled Politics, Society, Health, Money and
Religion. For instance, one of the debates in the Society section is, “Should
abortion be legal?” Consumers can see
arguments and evidence from the National Abortion Federation, Family
Research Council and the Alliance
Defense Fund.
In the Politics section of the site, Barack Obama and John McCain’s
camps are going head to head on the candidates’
proposed plans for improving the U.S. economy.
“Our research shows that when people make
decisions, they want insight from someone whose credentials they trust,
someone with credibility,” says Russell Fine,
founder and CEO of Opposing Views. “We help
facilitate the making of those decisions by providing consumers with a
single place they can get second, third and fourth opinions, or simply
get better informed on topics that are being talked about today.”
Each question at www.opposingviews.com
has a related news feed, allowing consumers to review recent coverage on
the topic. Participating associations and experts have a public profile
page, so consumers get to see their credentials and backers.
Opposing Views was created by Fine, a technology wizard and serial
entrepreneur who has focused his career on creating online companies
that aggregate huge amounts of information consumers can use to make
decisions and then give them a chance to participate in the outcome in
an interactive, immersive way. Fine designed and created the technology
for Youbet.com, a real-time online
horse racing site; and most recently was chairman of Accuscore.com,
an online service that lets fans subject their favorite sport to the
same level of detailed analysis as a financial analyst and predict game
or match outcomes.
