Vision Care for Homeless People is nominated for Charity of the Year 2013

We won last year and the added exposure helped us serve even more homeless people with the gift of sight.

Every year the AOP (Association of Optometrists) give the public a chance to vote for the charity that has demonstrated initiative in order to promote the importance of optometry, and raised awareness and funds to enhance the provision of sustainable eye care. In 2012 VCHP took the award for this achievement and hope to do the same this year. Founder Harinder Paul said "thanks to your vote last time, we won last year and the added exposure helped us serve even more homeless people with the gift of sight." It is this boost that this award gives to fuel progress that encouraged the online contact lens retailer to cast its vote for the homeless charity.

Director of Contact Lens Mail Kishan Devraj said "We recognise the great work that has been done by VCHP throughout the year to provide spectacles and therefore improve the quality of life of so many on our streets. An award like this would allow people to see what’s really happening and bring more help to the homeless through volunteer efforts. The only way this can happen is if people vote. It’s simple; all you have to do is CLICK HERE and select the first option. Let’s do this and expand on this great cause."

Since the charity was established in 2003, they have carried out free eye tests and issued brand new glasses to over 7000 homeless people in the UK. This is able to happen because optometrists and dispensing opticians donate thousands of hours every year to run the clinics.

It is evident in practice that when given the chance to see better, more job opportunities can be found and the work can be performed more efficiently, hugely benefiting our homeless community. So if you believe in this cause, this is your chance to vote and it can be done by clicking here.
