We continue to adapt our continuing education offerings to the modern nurse’s lifestyle. The eBook format allows nurses to continue their education whenever and wherever it’s convenient for them.

Western Schools today announced the availability of its first continuing education courses in eBook format, making the company the first healthcare continuing education provider to make continuing education courses available as eBooks. Western Schools currently has 19 of the most popular and frequently purchased nursing courses available in the eBook format and will be adding new eBook course titles weekly. A majority of the nursing curriculum will be available in eBook format by the end of the year.

“The healthcare industry has adopted mobile technology to enhance patient care and Western Schools is doing the same for healthcare education,” said Bob Sample, vice president of SC Publishing, Western Schools’ parent company. “We continue to adapt our continuing education offerings to the modern nurse’s lifestyle. The eBook format allows nurses to continue their education whenever and wherever it’s convenient for them, and provides them another option when choosing the learning style that meets their personal needs.”

The advantages of continuing education eBooks are numerous and go well beyond the inherent portability of using eReaders. Nurses can quickly download courses wirelessly and remotely onto just about any eReader from wherever they are. Course content features live, embedded links that the reader can select to explore subject matter further, and the reader can use the eReader to search for specific subject matter within the curriculum. Content, including diagrams and illustrations, are displayed in color or black and white depending on the format the eReader supports. Western Schools eBooks are compatible with 16 eReaders, including some of the most popular devices such as the Kindle, Nook and iPad. eBook courses are available for the same price as Western Schools online courses, and vary from course to course depending on the number of course hours and continuing education credits. More than 30 years ago Western Schools was one of the first providers to offer nurses home study books so they could fit their continuing education studies into their schedules. Since then Western Schools has expanded their product offering to include online study and now eBooks. To mark this milestone, Western Schools is giving away a Kindle via a Facebook caption contest that will run July 11 - 21st. The person who submits the winning caption will receive a Kindle loaded with one free Western Schools course.

Western Schools is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Commission on Accreditation.

As an ANCC-accredited organization, Western Schools’ courses are accepted for re-licensure by state licensing boards with mandatory continuing education requirements.
