National Nurses Week is celebrated May 6 -12.

West Bridgewater, MA (PRWEB) April 27, 2011

Western Schools, a leading accredited provider of healthcare continuing education, will celebrate national Nurses Week, May 6 – 12, by offering a free one-hour continuing education course download to every nurse in the country. In addition, nurses can visit Western Schools Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/westernschools) during Nurses Week to participate in a contest to win free scrubs and other prizes.

“Western Schools is committed to the professional growth and lifelong learning of nurses. Nurses week is the perfect time to celebrate them and provide a small token of our appreciation for all the hard work they do,” said Bob Sample, vice president of SC Publishing, Western Schools’ parent company. “The public may not realize that in addition to their ‘day jobs’ a majority of the nurses in the U.S. devote many hours of their personal time, as well as their own money, each year to studying the latest medical techniques and information in order to enhance their job performance and give the best care possible to their patients. ”

Nurses can download the free one-hour course, “MSRA: A Healthcare and Community Issue” at http://www.westernschools.com/nursesweek.aspx anytime between May 6 and May 31. The course covers content about methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), more commonly known as a drug-resistant staph infection, and its transmission, risk groups, treatment modalities and control measures.

Nurses Week has a long history dating back to the 1950’s and Nurses Day has consistently been celebrated in May since the 1970’s. In 1994 the Board of Directors of the American Nurse Association designated May 6 - 12 as the permanent dates of Nurses Week. May 6th is Nurses Day and May 12th is the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing.

Western Schools is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Commission on Accreditation.

As an ANCC-accredited organization, Western Schools’ courses are accepted for re-licensure by state licensing boards with mandatory continuing education requirements.
