There are thousands of hard-working people around the world who just need a little help to get their small businesses off the ground and pull themselves and their families up out of poverty

ContractEdge, the Internet’s best source for IT business contracts, has committed to donating 10 percent of its sales revenue from Sept. 1, 2010, through year-end to Kiva.org, whose mission is to connect people, through lending, for the sake of alleviating poverty. Kiva empowers individuals to lend to entrepreneurs across the globe. By combining microfinance with the Internet, Kiva is creating a global community of people connected through lending.
“There are thousands of hard-working people around the world who just need a little help to get their small businesses off the ground and pull themselves and their families up out of poverty,” said Jim Cochran, president and founder of ContractEdge. “We have been very fortunate with great customers and a successful business. We want to help make that happen for someone else. That’s what Kiva.org does, and we want to support them by giving back what we can.”
Based in San Francisco, Kiva.org is the world's first person-to-person micro-lending website. Since Kiva was founded in 2005, more than 476,000 people have loaned more than $156 million to more than 400,000 entrepreneurs in 201 countries. Currently, loans made through Kiva.org have a 98 percent repayment rate.
“When we started thinking about ways we could give back, we realized that Kiva would be the perfect beneficiary of our donation because we’re a small business serving small businesses with much-needed professional contracts,” Cochran said. “This is something we can do to support people who want to start their own small businesses, and for whom a little help will go a long way toward improving their lives.”
ContractEdge’s donation of 10 percent of its sales for four months is not a loan: It is a charitable gift to support Kiva.org’s ongoing operations. Individuals interested in making a minimum $25 loan can choose the recipient entrepreneur(s) at http://www.kiva.org. Kiva is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
