ConXtech, the leader in sustainable structural steel building technologies, was recently notified by the City of Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety (LADBS) that its Hayward California steel fabrication facility has received a Certificate of Approval as a Type 1 Fabricator. The company is now qualified to deliver its innovative ConX® “Chassis Based Modular™” steel structures to projects within LADBS’s jurisdiction.

The Los Angeles area has one of the most stringent earthquake codes in the United States. Fabricators supplying steel for projects built in this geography must be approved by LADBS. Applicants are subjected to an arduous pre-qualification process followed by an on-site facility assessment which includes an inspection of the plant and equipment, a QA/QC process review, as well as employee testing.

Approved fabricators must exhibit and maintain an extraordinary standard of operation, fabrication expertise and quality to be certified. “ConXtech was issued License #40 which in itself illustrates how few fabricators meet LADBS's standards,” says John Rettie, ConXtech’s Director of Manufacturing. “Three factors worked to our advantage: Our highly refined and process based delivery; a team that embraces technology; and our company culture that thrives on continuous improvement.”

In 2008, ConXtech’s innovative ConXR moment connection was granted General Approval for use in the City of Los Angeles as a Special Moment Frame (SMF) connection via Research Report #25647. In 2010, the company’s ConXL System was also accepted by LADBS via the ConXL System's AISC code approval (ANSI/AISC 358-10). “Having our ConXR and ConXL Systems, and now our fabrication facility, approved by LADBS is a key step toward fulfilling the growing demand for ConX structures in Southern California,” states Robert J. Simmons, founder and CEO of ConXtech. ConXtech is currently involved in the design of millions of square feet of ConX structure controlled by LADBS, including high-density residential, healthcare facilities, an elementary school, mixed-use, and shopping center projects.
