I have worked with Corin Nelsen for many years and he has consistently come through with amazing sounding recordings...it is a pleasure to find someone who can pay that amount of attention to detail.

Corin Nelsen, owner of SynchroSonic Productions, Inc., is expanding the production, engineering, mixing, and mastering services that he offers. Based on the coast of Maine, he will also be offering cost-effective solutions for those wanting to record at home with higher quality.
Musically, Nelsen has won awards for his work at all levels of the recording process, collaborating with both established and emerging musicians in the world, new age, singer/songwriter, rock, classical, acoustic, and electronic genres. He is renowned for his highly-personalized consulting services, educating musicians about emerging sound technologies and -- if they can’t afford to get into a studio -- how to make the most of their home studios. This approach, he says, benefits musicians at every level by helping them to understand their recording environments and prescribing constructive and affordable changes to maximize both acoustic and technical excellence. This component of Nelsen’s services not only eases the recording process for the artists, but also saves time and money in the post-recording stages of album production.
“Informing an artist and optimizing their home studio set up really helps the musician to understand the whole process, and gives them a safety net for recording,” says Nelsen. “I take pride in providing creative and cost-effective advice that allows musicians to record the best sound their home studio can achieve. Yes, recording in the studio is preferable, but the equipment is becoming affordable to have at home and in accepting that fact, we need to help them mitigate the compromises it can introduce.”
Nelsen’s most recent high-tech role as producer, engineer, and mixer, for Australian-native Fiona Joy Hawkins’ latest release, Christmas Joy, exemplifies his commitment to quality results for musicians on a national and international scale. It is now released in both high-resolution stereo and 5.1 surround on SACD.
"Corin Nelsen is the ‘Go to’ person for all musical needs from concept to finished product. His knowledge is exceptional, from producing, engineering, mixing, mastering and everything in the middle,” Hawkins says, continuing, “Corin’s incredibly high standards and attention to detail are equal to his expertise. From this combination comes the brilliance that creates music as art. Corin can achieve a whole new level with any musician he is involved with, and take the project somewhere you would never have believed possible. Corin’s true love of music, the artists and the industry, allows his talent to shine because he strives for the best in every project, every piece of music and every note he works on. Corin has ‘musical integrity’." Nelsen is currently working on an upcoming live concert DVD following up on Hawkin’s popular album Blue Dream.
With SynchroSonic Productions, Nelsen says he aims to provide excellence in all aspects of sound recording and studio design, and to help recording artists gain knowledge and confidence in new technology such as DSD, HD, surround sound, and SACD technologies. Nelsen understands the aural needs of the audiophile fans and the benefits of offering a high-quality, high-resolution audio download. The addition of high-resolution audio downloads which are superior—approximately two times better—to conventional CD formats, allows the serious fans to hear the music exactly as it sounded in the studio. Nelsen’s goal is to bring the music to new heights with clearer sounds and richer aural textures that satisfy both the musician and the listener with minimal, additional expense wherever it is recorded.
Legendary mastering engineer Bob Ludwig says: "I have worked with Corin Nelsen for many years and he has consistently come through with amazing sounding recordings. Corin routinely works in the most subtle levels of discernment and it is a pleasure to find someone who can pay that amount of attention to detail."
Nelsen was a guest panelist at the California Audio Show in July 2011 to discuss the merits of Direct Stream Digital (DSD) Technology. DSD is a 1-bit recording format with a sampling rate of 2.8 MHz, which pushes noise up to inaudible ultrasonic frequencies. Thus, DSD provides a greater dynamic range and wider frequency response than the standard CD. One delivery format is the Super Audio Compact Disc (SACD) Technology, which is a DSD scheme in 5.1 surround sound. The goals of utilizing 5.1 surround sound technologies involve carefully proportioned and positioned acoustic equipment that provides optimum sound quality for the studio, in a home theater, automobile, or other places.
SynchroSonic’s goal of providing high-resolution audio downloads, including 5.1 surround sound, provides musicians with an ideal outlet, as Nelsen says, “for moving up to another level of quality.” The high-resolution audio downloads aren’t aimed at replacing compressed audio formats, which Nelsen says “have their place in a practical sense for everyday life, but the quality is vastly different; some listeners want to hear it as we hear it in the studio.” In fact, Nelsen applauds Apple in their latest initiatives towards making higher resolution downloads available, and says SynchroSonic will be using the new Mastered for iTunes technologies to aid in creating Masters that are optimized for iTunes without compromising the uncompressed or high-resolution versions of the songs.
Recording artist Heidi Breyer shares, "Two years ago I called Corin a sonic genius, and now, working with him as my producer as well as engineer, I have no doubt he is the best out there. He just has that extra 10 percent you're looking for. He brings to our arena new life and energy, a unique and fresh approach to delivering your musical vision through an uncannily creative intuition and his ability to tailor the process to one’s busy artistic life. “
Nelsen, along with producer and percussionist extraordinaire Jeff Haynes (Indie Arie, Cassandra Wilson), is nurturing a recorded collection of stories by legendary musician Pete Seeger backed with music from Africa, India, Ireland, Latin America, European classical, and American folk/jazz. The project is steeped in American history featuring raw and evocative spoken word elements by Seeger. Nelsen and Haynes are editing and mixing the stories with music for the upcoming multi-disc collection.
Nelsen is a Member of National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (GRAMMY Awards®), Audio Engineering Society (AES), and a multiple Zone Music Reporter Awards winner for recorded, mixed and/or mastered recordings for Album of The Year, Best Contemporary Instrumental Album, Best Instrumental Album-Piano, Best New Artist, Best Holiday Album, and Best Instrumental Album-Guitar. In his production and engineering experience on over 150 different albums, Corin has had the privilege of working with music greats such as Bruce Swedien, T-Bone Wolk, Will Ackerman, Eugene Friesen, Jeff Haynes, Pete Seeger, Tony Levin, Steve Holley, Marc Shulman and the Attacca String Quartet, among others.
