A new white paper co-produced by Cormant, Inc. and Fluke Networks sets out to prove that managing increased energy efficiency, optimized IT infrastructure investment, and revolutionized data center architecture is not only possible, but necessary and achieved by the inclusion of Connectivity Management within the DCIM environment.

Three emerging dynamics are largely affecting the management of enterprise data centers: the increased requirement for energy efficiency, the need to optimize the investment in IT infrastructure, and the revolution in data center architecture manifested in virtualization and cloud computing. Overseeing these dynamics is difficult and nowadays achieved by the innovative discipline called Data Center Infrastructure Management or DCIM.

DCIM is often aimed at controlling the physical facilities: power, cooling, racks and space. But DCIM is also a comprehensive repository for information and a logical means to manage other key pieces of data center infrastructure, including the cabling that interconnects servers, storage, switches, routers, firewalls, etc. This white paper, entitled “The Need For Connectivity Management As Part Of A DCIM Environment” explains that, by including structured cabling within DCIM, holistic and proactive data center infrastructure management can be achieved.
