In reality, dentistry is one of the most exciting and promising areas of medicine. It is possible that some of the top dentists of the next fifty years were in that room.

Dr. Robin Rutherford says his recent lecture at the University of Texas Permian Basin (UTPB) Tex Prep program gave him the chance to speak to students about the rewarding experience of providing quality dental care and establishing lasting relationships with patients. He says he showed many before and after photos of patients whose smiles he had transformed and whose lives were thereby changed for the better.
Dr. Rutherford says he also showed students cases in which he had replaced teeth that had been lost due to disease or trauma with dental implants, thereby giving those patients back their ability to chew, smile, and enjoy a normal life. He says he hopes the next generation of dentists pushes the field towards more advanced technology in procedures like teeth whitening and porcelain veneers as well as bone grafting and dental implants. “Most of the students probably have never even thought of dentistry as a career choice. In reality, dentistry is one of the most exciting and promising areas of medicine. It is possible that some of the top dentists of the next fifty years were in that room today.”
As a cosmetic dentist, Dr. Rutherford adds that active participation in the dental community is crucial for the continued progress of dentistry because advancements in techniques are happening at an astounding rate. He also emphasizes the importance of educating young professionals and engaging future dentists at lectures targeted towards students with a passion for learning and growing. “As I was showing before and after photos of patients I have treated, I realized that very little of it was procedures I was taught in my own dental school education. It was all procedures that I have learned by going to continuing education seminars taught by leading dentists all over the U.S.A.”
