Jessica Lash, a cosmetology graduate from Salon Cosmetique at Vatterott College, 3609 North Marx Drive, Quincy, Illinois and stylist in Hannibal, Mo., placed 2nd in the 2012 Cosmetologists Illinois Photo Competition. The award was presented during the America's Beauty Show, March 3-5, 2012 at McCormick Place in Chicago.

As a runner up in the competition, Lash won a 3-year membership to Cosmetologist’s Illinois, entry photos featured on, a trophy, a certificate of recognition and $150 worth of extra prizes.

"We are very proud of Jessica and feel she has a bright future in cosmetology. She is focused and serious about her work and goals,” said Bonnie Bates, president of Cosmetologists Illinois. “We are so glad to have her as a member of Cosmetologists Illinois! We believe in professionalism, excellence, education and legislative protection for our profession."

“With the help of my teachers, I was able to submit photos right before my graduation deadline,” said Lash. “How often do you get the chance to do something you love, showcase your talent and compete against thousands of other students across Illinois? I knew at this point that this is what I am meant to do, not just because it's something I love, but because everyone else saw my passion.”

Lash always wanted to be a cosmetologist. Growing up in a small town, she had aspirations to style hair on runway models or alongside professional haircare lines. In 2008, she enrolled at the age of 28 at Salon Cosmetique, Vatterott College cosmetology school in Quincy, Illinois. After graduation, Lash worked at BJ Grand Salon in Springfield, Ill. and recently accepted a stylist position at The Gallery in Hannibal, Mo.

“I am often impressed and inspired by the talent of our students,” said Michael Denum, Campus Director at Salon Cosmetique. “This type of achievement is something worth celebrating. It is a true representation of all our students’ enthusiasm and dedication both in and outside the classroom.”

Students at Salon Cosmetique at Vatterott College are trained in cosmetology and esthiology. The program is designed to provide real-life training for students in a rejuvenating salon setting.
