Costhetics has partnered with the Cosmetic Physicians Society of Australasia (CPSA) in the Society’s annual survey, to understand people’s attitudes to cosmetic enhancement procedures.
The survey was conducted in light of industry estimates that Australians may spend $6.99 billion in 2011-2012 to improve their appearance.
“Working closely with CPSA on the survey was an interesting experience for us,” says Louisa McKay, Director of Costhetics. “The survey helped us to see who is seeking cosmetic enhancement information. It also confirmed our conviction that people want, and need, more qualitative education on cosmetic enhancement.
“Costhetics sees its responsibility as informing and educating people about all aspects of cosmetic enhancement through http://www.costhetics.com.au . There are potential risks and complications in any procedure and it is vital that every Australian understands that before they proceed.”
The survey found that natural beauties, Michelle Pfeiffer, Kylie Minogue, Nicole Kidman, Sharon Stone and Jane Fonda, were considered to have had the best cosmetic procedures because they looked as they had earlier in their lives.
Perhaps not surprisingly, over 71 per cent of respondents considered that Jocelyn “Cat Woman” Wildenstein looked the worst following her experiences of cosmetic enhancement. Also on the ‘worst look’ list were comedienne, Joan Rivers, and actor, Mickey Rourke, who looked drastically different to their former selves.
Dr. Susan Austin of CPSA said, “Celebrities who have the most natural appearance following cosmetic treatment are considered the best looking. Most of my patients request treatments to make them look like a younger, more rejuvenated version of themselves, rather than a different person entirely.
“Wrinkles, the development of jowls and volume loss in the cheeks/neck are the key ageing features that women seek to address through cosmetic enhancement. For men predominant ageing features are thinning hair, wrinkles and loss of jawline.”
Costhetics is Australia's trusted source of cosmetic surgery information, dedicated to informing and educating consumers about all aspects of cosmetic enhancement.
