Craftster, the largest online community for "indie crafts", has teamed up with the Standard Recording Company, to pull off an interactive musical experience for the 2009 South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, TX. The Craftster/Standard Party will take over The Art Project (301 Chicon St., Suite F) on Friday, March 20th from 11am to 5pm. The event is free to the public and will feature 11 bands. Additionally, Craftster and Standard will offer free craft demonstrations, complimentary customizable silk screened clothing, and the SXSW day party staple of free beer and food.

Craftster, the largest online "indie crafts" community with millions of visitors per month, will be spearheading the craft demos. Some of the Craftster team will be on hand to show everyone attending how to make two simple and addictive crafts, 8-bit video game art coasters and stacked rings out of vintage buttons.

"SXSW has grown over the years from a tiny music festival into a massive cultural event that reflects, discusses and showcases major trends in culture and media. Craftster is the leading online community that is enabling the major trend of indie crafts and DIY (do-it-yourself) projects," says Jeff Bennett, President & COO of NameMedia, who owns and operates Craftster and a network of other cool enthusiast sites.

Provo Craft will also be demoing their new Yudu™ personal silk-screener during the Craftster / Standard party and offering everyone a chance to leave with their own personalized silk screened t-shirt or tote bag. Provo Craft will also be giving away Yudu™ machines to a few lucky people.

Confirmed performers include Grandpall Jookabox, Kentucky Nightmare, Maps and Atlases, Haley Bonar, Everthus the Deadbeats, Casper and The Cookies, Daniel Martin Moore, and Amo Joy. Also, J. Matthew Gerken, Christian Kiefer and Jefferson Pitcher will be performing songs from Of Great and Mortal Men: 43 Songs For 43 US Presidencies, which received widespread critical acclaim from NPR, Pitchfork and The Washington Post and others upon its release in late 2008.

Although the Craftster and Standard Recording Day Party is free and open to the general public, you're encouraged to RSVP so we can hold a space open for you. Performance times can be found at this page as well in addition to standardrecording.com and craftster.org.
