Conrad Siegel Actuaries’ Rob Glus to Speak at Central Penn Business Journal’s Healthcare Symposium

As we approach 2014, employers are trying to contain the growth of healthcare costs. There is a lot of uncertainty around where group health plan costs are headed and many employers are concerned that these costs will be much higher.

Conrad Siegel Actuaries, celebrating its 50th year delivering comprehensive employee benefits services, announced today that partner and consulting actuary Rob Glus will speak at the Central Penn Business Journal’s Healthcare Symposium.

Glus will speak at the panel discussion titled, “Affordable Care Act’s Impact on Your Business: Projected Costs & Options.” During the panel, Glus will discuss pricing costs surrounding healthcare and the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

Conrad Siegel Actuaries recently released its annual Medical and Prescription Drug Benefits survey results, finding that medical and prescription drug benefit costs continue to rise for employees and their families. The employee benefits survey found that 88 percent of the companies who responded now require employees to share in the cost of their health premiums. That percentage is up from 77 percent of employees sharing in health premium costs in 2009.

“As we approach 2014, employers are trying to contain the growth of healthcare costs. There is a lot of uncertainty around where group health plan costs are headed and many employers are concerned that these costs will be much higher,” said Glus. “Companies will look to minimize costs by adding and increasing plan deductibles, passing on more of the premium cost to employees and their families, tightening eligibility provisions, and placing a greater emphasis on health and wellness.”

Glus is chair of Conrad Siegel’s health and welfare committee, specializing in group health and welfare benefit plan consulting. He works with private sector employers, tax-exempt organizations, large associations and Taft-Hartley health and welfare trusts. Last year, Glus joined the Central Penn Business Journal Health Care Reform Advisory Panel, providing information on the Affordable Care Act for local businesses and serving as the expert in live email chats with Central Penn readers.

Other industry experts will also speak at the Healthcare Symposium on legislative healthcare updates, hospitals adapting to new realities and the world of exchanges.

The Healthcare Symposium will take place Friday, June 28 from 8 am to 12 pm at the Radisson Hotel in Harrisburg, PA. To see the complete agenda and register to attend, please visit http://www.centralpennbusiness.com/section/healthcareSymposium.
