Nonprofits are vision focused and mission driven. On Monday, November 22, 2010 from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., the CT Association of Nonprofits, based in Hartford, will host the 8th Annual Connecticut Nonprofit Conference at the Omni Hotel in New Haven, 155 Temple Street.

The event will include informative seminars, panel discussions, Legislative Award Presentations, networking and more. Keynote address “It's Not About Surviving, or Even Thriving. It's About Prevailing” will be delivered by Jan Masaoka, Director & Editor in Chief of Blue Avocado, author of The Best of Board Café, and former Executive Director of CompassPoint Nonprofit Services. She has been listed eight times among the "Fifty Most Influential People" in the nonprofit sector nationwide, and in 2003 she was named "Nonprofit Executive of the Year" by Nonprofit Times.

“Our theme this year is ‘vision focused and mission driven’ as we believe that describes the power of the nonprofit community we serve,” said Mark Berardi, Director of Membership Development & Training Services. “Through the conference, we provide nonprofits with the tools and information they need to continue on this determined path.”

While this is a nonprofit conference, for profit businesses are encouraged to attend as well. In Connecticut, nonprofits employ 12% of the State’s citizens, granting over $500 million annually and controlling nearly $6 billion in assets.

“Since the nonprofit sector is a big contributor to our State’s economy, this event is advantageous for all organizations,” Berardi said.

Morning Seminars will run 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. and include such topics as: Nonprofits and the Changing Media Landscape: Attracting the Attention Your Cause Deserves, delivered by a panel of local journalists; Create Powerful Partnerships: Inspire Greater Investment in the Community, delivered by a panel of Community, Corporate & Family Foundation Executives; and Courageous Community Leadership with Heidi Brooks, Ph. D: Director, Leadership Development Program, Yale University.

Afternoon Seminars will run 2:45 p.m. – 4:15 p.m. and include: Nonprofit Sustainability:
Develop Your Business Plan During this Workshop! with Jan Masaoka; Making the Ask: The Art and Science of Asking for Money Face to Face with Rebecca M. Bryan, CFRE: President, R. Bryan Associates, LLC; Corporate Collaborations: A Roadmap for Engaging Corporate Support with Michael Feller, Ed.D.: Principal, Strategic Philanthropy Advisors, LLC and Greg King: Principal, Strategic Philanthropy Advisors, LLC; 3 Steps to Enhance Your (Emerging!) Leadership Impact with Meghan Lowney, MSW: Founder/Principal, Ripple Effect Consulting, and; Strategic Financial Management: Supporting Your Mission with Dawn Bryant, CPA: Viola, Chrabascz, Reynolds & Co., LLP Certified Public Accounts.

Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. and the exhibit hall will open at 8:45 a.m. Breakfast and lunch will be served. As part of admission, attendees are asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy valued at $10-$20 to the event that will be donated to the NBC Connecticut Joy of Sharing Toy Drive. DonorPerfect is the premier sponsor of the 8th Annual Connecticut Nonprofit Conference.
