For couples trying to have a baby, understanding their fertility potential and taking charge of their family building efforts can be very challenging, especially when it may not be clear whether a specific problem even exists.

CT Fertility, one of the leading fertility centers in the world, is introducing a set of free and anonymous “Quick-Screen” tests designed to help potential patients determine the relative likelihood that they would benefit from further testing and/or succeed with treatment for a range of fertility conditions. Each evaluation is made of 8-12 simple focused questions that are graded automatically to calculate both a score and a sequence of recommendations. Quick-Screen tools have also been introduced to allow potential egg donor or surrogate applicants be assigned a preliminary indication about their medical suitability with a virtual "reproductive credit score or rating".
The online tools introduced can answer questions such as “should I see a fertility specialist?” or “should I freeze my eggs?”. These are sensitive questions that people often like to avoid, but in a field where many conditions can worsen with time, delay can be costly. Indeed CT Fertility hopes that making it easy to get answers on such nagging concerns will lead to early detection and more effective treatment. Conversely, the Quick-Screen tools can also help avoid unnecessary office visits and stress for those whose symptoms and circumstances indicate that further medical testing or treatments are actually not warranted at this time.
“For couples trying to have a baby, understanding their fertility potential and taking charge of their family building efforts can be very challenging, especially when it may not be clear whether a specific problem even exists,” said Dr. Michael Doyle, founder of CT Fertility. “Similarly, for women who are interested in helping others by becoming an egg donor or a surrogate, questions related to their eligibility and suitability may seem equally elusive.” In developing the online evaluation tools Dr. Doyle is drawing from both his practical experience, and the years he spent offering individual “Ask the Expert” advice via email and on prominent portals where he is the resident fertility expert, including Fertility Authority, Family Equality Council, Proud Parenting, Surromoms Online, and the NYC LGBT Community Center.
Even before the introduction of these Quick-Screen tools, CT Fertility had already provided an extensive online library of articles, video and audio clips that hundreds of future patients, egg donors and surrogates have been using. “The Quick-screen tools provide an even more direct, customized tool for patients to achieve a better understanding of their options,” said Dr. Doyle, “but they are not intended to replace careful office-based diagnostic testing or the specific clinical decision-making steps that arise from them.“ But Dr. Doyle, who also has a background in the field of public health as well as reproductive endocrinology, sees no point in encouraging needless office visits by people who will not benefit from treatment.
To the initial library of four Quick-Screen tools CT Fertility plans to add several more online tests in the coming weeks, including some related to endometriosis and male fertility.
