CWorks Systems ' first 1 Malaysia Paper Plane Fun Contest 2010 held on March 7, 2010 was a tremendous success. More than 500 students from universities and polytechnic institutes across Malaysia piled into the crowded indoor sports arena, Dewan Pusat Sukan, University Putra of Malaysia, Serdang, Selangor, to compete for prizes in the first-ever Malaysian paper plane flying contest. The goal: to determine which team of students could build and fly the most aerodynamic paper airplane. Students consisting of 3 members each, designed, collaborated, folded, creased, and then launched paper airplanes made from 8x11.5 inch recycled paper; measurements were then taken to determine which paper airplanes that had the longest times of flight.
CWorks Systems hosted this inaugural event as a method for bringing students together in the spirit of 1 Malaysia and as a portal for learning more about science and math. “We took a chance that students would be interested in this and were overwhelmed by the response,” commented stated Abdul Rani Achmed, CEO and co-founder of CWorks Systems. “Our students are our future and if we can bring students together and pique their attention in science and/or math through their participation in this contest, then we have accomplished our goals.”
