From November 29th to December 6th, retailers around the world will offer Cyber Monday discounts

Retailers around the world recognize that online shopping peaks from the last Monday of November to the first Monday of December. This phenomenon is known as Cyber Monday.

For the first time, Cyber Monday sales will begin on Monday November 29th 2010 and conclude on Monday December 6th 2010 around the world. Already the busiest online shopping week in United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Portugal, Cyber Monday is poised to make its global debut in more than 20 countries including Austria, Australia, China, Czech Republic, Estonia, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Ireland, Japan, Korea, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, and Taiwan. International Cyber Monday shoppers can choose between cross border shopping at US online stores or finding Cyber Monday sales in their home countries. A directory of Cyber Monday websites can be found at CyberMonday.nu (pronounced NEW).

Cyber Monday originated in the United States in 2005 from the observation that Americans returning to work on the Monday after Thanksgiving and Black Friday would shop online to take advantage of lower prices and free shipping. In 2009, this trend was also observed in the United Kingdom and Portugal as shoppers browsed high streets or malls on the weekend and returned to work on Monday to complete their festive shopping online. As a result, online stores around the world will be offering Cyber Monday sales with big discounts to lure shoppers to buy early and hopefully often.

CyberMonday.nu was created by Matthew Cheng, founder of eCoupons.com and eCoupons.co.uk, one of the largest coupon and voucher code websites based in New York City area. According to Cheng, “Retailers around the world recognize that online shopping peaks from the last Monday of November to the first Monday of December. This phenomenon is known as Cyber Monday. In the US, consumers start their Cyber Monday shopping in earnest after Thanksgiving and Black Friday. Meanwhile in the UK, online shopping peaks because workers receive their last pay cheque before Christmas and need to get gifts early before taking holiday leave. As a result, nearly every US retailer will have Cyber Monday sales and hundreds of UK retailers will be offering special Cyber Monday voucher codes and discounts for the festive season.”
