Their users are unbelievably creative and refreshingly funny. Not only was it a good fit, but Dailymotion saved me from blindly trolling the web for months, or maybe years.
New York, NY (PRWEB) July 26, 2007
Dailymotion today announced the New York City-based sketch comedy troupe The Dregs as the winner of the "Great Sketch Comedy Showdown" competition (http://www.dailymotion.com/group/63851). The Dregs, comprised of members Sandra Bauleo, John Roberts (the one in drag), Gina Vetro, and Clay Weiner, will receive a six month development deal with comedy producer Jim Biederman. This award includes mentoring, creative input and assistance in obtaining a distribution deal. The Dreg's winning entry can be seen at http://www.dailymotion.com/the_dregs.
Jim Biederman is Dailymotion's first professional mentor for the MotionMaker Mentor program in the US, which identifies and rewards outstanding contributors to the Dailymotion creative community.
"I believe that the creative adventure needs a guiding hand," said Biederman. "Hopefully, I can be that hand."
As part of Dailymotion's creative programming strategy, Biederman and the Dailymotion creative team, led by Danny Passman, reviewed all qualifying entries. Winners were chosen based on originality, potential for development and, of course, how much the video made Biederman laugh and cry.
"I found my last troupe, The Whitest Kids U'Know, when my agent emailed me. Now I have to do my own work, but there's too much comedy on the web to get a handle on it all. I am so thankful that Dailymotion approached me," stated Biederman. "Their users are unbelievably creative and refreshingly funny. Not only was it a good fit, but Dailymotion saved me from blindly trolling the web for months, or maybe years."
"We want to allow our users to just sit back and enjoy the videos submitted instead of forcing them to watch hundreds of videos in order to choose a winner," said Danny Passman, who is obsessed with a character from the winning entry's uncanny resemblance to his step-mom. "We left that part up to Jim Biederman, who spent 200 hours watching all 905 videos. He's certain to be an excellent mentor to The Dregs. Jim's wife, however, won't return my texts."
US Managing Director Joy Marcus added, "This MotionMaker Mentor program is an example of Dailymotion's unique approach to connecting with and giving back to our user base. We see so many potential stars on Dailymotion. We want to give them the tools to develop their craft and maybe even get discovered. Connecting them with the best and brightest in their chosen creative fields is a great way to do this. We are fortunate to have folks on our team who can make these connections for our users."
The "Great Sketch Comedy Showdown" contest coincided with the official launch of the popular site's localized US version. A selection of the top videos from the competition including The Dregs' "The Tree" and "Jackie & Debra" are currently showcased on Dailymotion's website at http://www.dailymotion.com/group/63851.
20,000 new videos are uploaded into Dailymotion's global network of video entertainment sites, where a programming team turns the user-generated and licensed content into high-quality entertainment for over 4 million daily visitors. Using the most advanced technology available to both users and content creators, Dailymotion provides high-quality video in a fast, easy-to-use website that also automatically filters infringing material. Dailymotion's mission is to provide the best possible entertainment experience for users and the best business experience for content owners.
