He has also been a member of the Dallas County Medical Society since 1981. Over the course of his service to his profession, Dr. McCulley has written 55 book chapters, published over 230 articles for major peer-reviewed eye journals, and has given over 1,500 lectures at major eye meetings worldwide, earning the highest regard from his peers.

Dr. McCulley has been recognized as one of "America's Top Ophthalmologists," America's Top Doctors by Castle Connolly Medical, the "Guide to America's Top Ophthalmologists," and the "Best Doctors in Dallas" by D Magazine. In addition, he has been included among the "Texas Super Doctors" in Texas Monthly, "Who's Who in Medicine & Healthcare", Marquis "Who's Who in America," "Who's Who in American Education," and "Who's Who Among American Teachers and Educators." He has received Distinguished Alumnus Awards from TCU and Harvard Medical School Department of Ophthalmology and Washington University Medical School's Alumni Achievement Award.
