Critically-acclaimed children’s author and celebrated humanitarian Tina Turbin, best known for her award-winning Danny the Dragon children’s book series, is sharing her views on reading liberally to and with children on a broader scale than ever.
With her West Coast and European Book Tours behind her, Turbin has been focusing her efforts on one of her most passionate causes—children’s literacy. Despite her demanding writing schedule, the author has been interviewed by over 80 blogging parents and even more online publications. During these interviews, she emphasized the importance of sharing books with very young children by reading with and to them. “It’s vital that parents and teachers open children up to the amazing world of books starting at an early age as possible,” Turbin said.
Imagination Publishing Group (IPG), renowned for its children's materials and the publisher of Turbin’s cherished illustrated children's title Danny the Dragon Meets Jimmy, has been backing up the author by supplying schools, libraries, and hospitals with Danny the Dragon specialty items such as door hangers, book markers, pencils, allergy-free Danny the Dragon tattoos, and posters that say “Reading is Fun” and “It’s Cool to Read.”
“IPG has been so wonderful in supporting me in my children’s literacy efforts,” Turbin said. IPG has also announced that it has been donating copies of Danny the Dragon Meets Jimmy to children in need this holiday season.
Turbin’s work on behalf of children’s literacy and other issues such as children’s health and gluten allergies has earned her widespread recognition and numerous honors. She was named a Moxy Woman by the renowned organization Woman Taking Care of Business (WTCB) and was featured in Tampa Bay Magazine for her work. Her Danny the Dragon children’s titles have received a number of distinguished awards, including most recently the 2011 Media of the Year Award by Creative Child Magazine.
“I’m so honored to have received this recognition for my work as a literacy advocate,” Turbin said in an interview. “But my biggest payoff is knowing that I’m helping parents and educators realize or fortify the importance of reading as much as possible to children starting when they’re very young.”
