Data that should be secure, such as network credentials, confidential company records, and possibly customer or patient records, are in danger of data breach whether or not the device is lost or stolen.

Systematic Development Group, manufacturer of the LOK-IT Secure Flash Drive, today announced the availability of the LOK-IT File Sync Pro Edition App for Android. The app makes it simple to sync, copy or transfer files to and from tablets and smartphones that are USB On-The-Go (OTG) compatible.

At the Black Hat conference in Las Vegas, Nevada this past week, a main topic of interest was the likely infiltration of malware onto both Android and iOS mobile devices. As referenced in a USA Today article, Kevin McNamee, director of Alcatel-Lucent's Kindsight Security Labs, showed how it's possible to hack into any popular Android app that's being distributed online and embed code that turns the smartphone of anyone who downloads the app into a spyphone.

“Business users hold a large amount of data on their tablets and smartphones. A significant amount of this data is not only personal confidential information, such as website account passwords, but information that is tied to their organization,” stated George Wolf, president of Systematic Development Group. “Data that should be secure, such as network logon credentials, confidential company records, and possibly customer or patient records, are in danger of data breach whether or not the device is lost or stolen. This confidential data should be stored off of the device until required.”

The now available LOK-IT File Sync Pro Edition app for Android simplifies the process of accessing and removing confidential files between an Android tablet or smartphone and a LOK-IT Secure Flash Drive. The Pro Edition adds functionality to the popular Free Edition, allowing users to open, delete or email files directly from within the app.

John Tate, executive vice president for Systematic Development Group added, “Some manufacturers, especially Samsung, have provided the ability to connect a tablet or smartphone to a USB flash drive through use of USB OTG. Most secure flash drives are incompatible with Android devices, so the LOK-IT Secure Flash Drive is a welcome tool for organizations that want to ensure files are backed up, transported and transferred to others in an encrypted manner.”

LOK-IT File Sync Pro Edition is available at no charge for a limited time at LOK-IT File Sync App prior to its general release through the Google Play Store.
