DavisPTnetwork, the online continuing education and networking website from F.A. Davis Company, together with the Foundation for Physical Therapy, is raising funds for physical therapy research.

As an organization dedicated to advancing the physical therapy profession, we are continually impressed by the new and innovative ways the physical therapy community generates funds for research.

F. A. Davis Company’s comprehensive online continuing education resource and social networking website for physical therapy professionals—DavisPTnetwork —has joined forces with the Foundation for Physical Therapy to help raise money for physical therapy research.

This fund-raising effort is tied into the DavisPTnetwork 2010 Membership Drive Campaign. Based on thresholds met during the membership drive, DavisPTnetwork will make a donation to the Foundation for Physical Therapy for new members who register before July 31, 2010, up to a maximum of $5,000. There is no cost to join DavisPTnetwork, and currently there are over 2,000 members.

“We’re very excited by the fund-raising efforts of DavisPTnetwork,” says Robert J. Brennan, Executive Director of the Alexandria, VA-based Foundation for Physical Therapy. “As an organization dedicated to advancing the physical therapy profession, we are continually impressed by the new and innovative ways the physical therapy community generates funds for research. This is a great example of the PT community working together to make a difference.”

“We’re pleased to help the Foundation continue to advance the vital work they do for PT research,” says Margaret Biblis, F.A. Davis Publisher Professions/Medicine. “As the health science industry’s leading independent publisher and ardent supporter of the physical therapy community since 1962, this partnership between DavisPTnetwork and the Foundation for Physical Therapy is another important way we demonstrate our commitment to supporting the PT profession.”

The mission of the Foundation for Physical Therapy—the principal and only nationwide physical therapy foundation—is to fund research that supports the development of evidence-based physical therapist practice, enhance the quality of physical therapist services for patients and clients, and increase the number of physical therapist researchers. The Foundation was established in 1979 as a national, independent, nonprofit corporation to support the physical therapy profession's research needs in three areas: scientific research, clinical research, and health services research.

Launched in February 2009, DavisPTnetwork provides PT professionals from around the world with a unique opportunity for social networking and professional collaboration, as well as online continuing education. Membership to the DavisPTnetwork social networking community is free. Additionally, there is a wide range of affordable (starting at $45 per course), peer-reviewed courses offered at the site. With support available 24/7, PTs and PTAs can take these online continuing education courses at their convenience.
