Britain is set to face one of the coldest winters since 1993, as the Met Office has issued severe weather warnings for the ice and snow that has already affected parts of Scotland, and is predicted to cover much of the eastern side of Britain over the coming days. With many areas facing heavy snowfall and coastal areas expecting cold rain and sleet, travel insiders are anticipating more enquiries regarding cheap holidays and last minute winter deals over the next few weeks.

Alex Saint of online holiday experts, dealchecker.co.uk says: “This weather is caused by a cold north easterly wind, which will cause the daytime temperatures across Scotland and parts of north east England to fall to just above freezing. While many people dream of having the perfect white Christmas, it appears that this could be the ideal time to book a holiday and grab some warm winter sun.”

The upcoming cold snap, is anticipated to cause daylight temperatures to drop to around 2C (35F) in Central London, which is 7 degrees lower than the average temperature of 9C (48F).Temperatures in parts of south-east Scotland are expected to rarely peak above 0C (32F). So with parts of the country said to be preparing for the heaviest and most significant snowfall since 1993, the thought of embarking on Cyprus holidays, or trips to other warmer climates will suddenly seem all the more appealing to many people.

Saint continues: “The public are being warned to prepare for the worst during the cold snap, particularly motorists, who will be the most susceptible to accidents caused by icy conditions, which will make driving, walking and everyday tasks particularly difficult for everyone. With this poor weather expected to last more than a week, these bleak conditions could drive more people to escape, and enjoy the sunshine and relaxation that a winter holiday can provide. With the weather expected to get worse before it gets better, we’re anticipating that more holidaymakers will search for deals on a last minute break by looking for winter holidays from dealchecker online.”
