Tenerife Targets British Holidaymakers with Launch of Youtube Channel

The Tenerife Tourism Corporation moves into the world of Web 2.0 with its new Youtube Channel, designed to encourage UK holidaymakers to visit the Spanish island.

Tenerife has stepped into the world of social media with the launch of its UK Youtube channel, designed to promote the holiday destination in concert with the island’s existing social media profiles. The launch comes as part of a larger marketing drive, aiming to prove that there’s more to Tenerife holidays than just sun, surf and sand, highlighting the diversity of activities, sights and events the island has to offer around the year.

“Tourism departments and boards across the globe have been relatively slow to latch onto social media as a marketing tool,” says Alex Saint, Managing Director of holiday experts dealchecker.co.uk. “What they’re finding is that travellers are exceedingly keen to communicate their experiences with other holidaymakers through these channels, sharing videos and photos. Following on from the success of the island’s Spanish-language channel, the UK Tenerife Youtube channels hosts several specially commissioned videos that highlight aspects of the island UK holidaymakers used to all-inclusive package holidays might not be aware of, such as its various carnivals and fiestas, to its wildlife and natural beauty spots. Users are invited to subscribe to the channel, as well as join the island’s Facebook page, where they can share their photos and comments with other users.

“The internet is an important place to research travel, so we are keen to ensure that Tenerife’s voice is heard on social media platforms,” says Jose Manuel Bermudez, Tenerife Councillor for Tourism. “Social media presents us with the perfect opportunity to reach potential holidaymakers and engage in dialogue with those who know our island and those who may not.”
