The Small Business Council of America (SBCA), a national nonprofit organization, honored Jay and Kashmira Sonecha, of Newark, DE, as the 2010 SBCA Small Business Persons of the Year at its 27th Annual Congressional Awards reception on Capitol Hill on May 5th. Among the other honorees were three U.S. Senators and three members of Congress.
The Sonechas were recognized for their outstanding achievements as representatives of our country's small businesses and for their many charitable and humanitarian efforts. They are the founders of Blenheim Homes, Blenheim Hospitality Group and The Sonecha Foundation. Through these organizations they have created beautiful communities and homes for thousands of people, generated economic opportunity and growth in several states and have given back to their community through the generous work of their foundation. Private Sector Success
The Sonechas' business accomplishments are exemplars for the private sector:
In operation since 1983, their land development, home building and real estate businesses have contributed to the development of 24 communities in three states - Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania - with over 2,700 homes built and delivered. Blenheim Homes ( http://www.blenheimhomes.com ) has received more than 30 awards as a home builder and has won the coveted "Community of the Year" award nine times. In addition to home building, the Blenheim organization has also completed a variety of projects that enrich their communities such as hotels, nursing homes, office buildings, restaurants and recreational facilities.
Blenheim Hospitality Group ( http://www.blenhospitality.com ) founded in 2002, has developed rapidly and currently owns and operates hotels totaling more than 900 rooms in the prestigious Hilton, Marriott, and IHG lines in Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey.
A Long History of Charitable Works
Instituted in 1995, The Sonecha Foundation is currently providing funding for construction of a new college focused on degree programs in computer engineering and business administration. In addition to this, The Foundation will be providing scholarships based on financial need to help ensure that the benefits of quality education are available to those who seek them regardless of means.
Over the years, The Sonecha Foundation has lent its support to a number of worthy causes including the Helen Graham Cancer Center, The Nemours Foundation, The Diabetes Foundation and Habitat for Humanity. In addition, Jay and Kashmira Sonecha have served on the Board of the Delaware Chapter of the Red Cross and have been instrumental in substantial fundraising.
