Demand forecasting, planning and replenishment professionals can win an iPad Mini
This is a good way for the supply chain community to learn and have fun. Though it sounds strange to say fun and supply chain in the same breath.

Atlanta, Georgia (PRWEB) November 15, 2012

In keeping with the holiday season, leading SaaS inventory replenishment, demand planning and analytics provider Blue Ridge announced today the start of the Surprisingly Seasonal Items Contest. The Blue Ridge team sponsored the contest to invite retail, wholesale and manufacturing professionals to have a little fun in this stressful time, and submit their ideas for intriguing and surprisingly seasonal items. The company will deliver an iPad Mini to the winner of the contest.

The Blue Ridge team expects the contest to be a light-hearted and fun approach for merchandising, supply-chain, demand forecasting, planning and replenishment professionals…possibly even executive management…to share their stories on seasonal items that have had unexpected sales patterns.

Items such as these often provide unique challenges and discoveries for demand forecasting and inventory replenishment teams. “Being surprised by an item’s demand is never a fun topic, or at least not until after the fact,” quipped Greg White, CEO of Blue Ridge. White continued, “Sometimes you can laugh about it later, but you certainly learn from it, and this is a good way for the supply chain community to learn and have fun. Though it sounds strange to say fun and supply chain in the same breath.”

The Surprisingly Seasonal Items Contest officially kicks off today. Blue Ridge will be open to receive entries until December 7 at midnight. Retail, wholesale and manufacturing professionals in the United States and Canada are eligible to submit an item with a seasonal lift or dip along with their unusual or surprising explanation for the item’s seasonality. Blue Ridge judges will evaluate the submissions on the basis of their novelty, originality, interest, verifiability, and surprising nature. The company is excited to award an iPad Mini as a grand prize to one exceptionally insightful winner. Details on the contest, rules and entry information can be found on the Blue Ridge website.

Blue Ridge has posted a list of past-identified items with surprising seasonal demand on the company’s blog. Some examples of past items include flashlights, which peak in demand during Halloween, and glass markers, which peak in May and June due to students’ proclivity to write on car windows during graduation time.
