Direct from the Designers offers consumers and homebuilders the most innovative and best-selling collection of house plans available, direct from the designers themselves.

Many buyers and builders are surprised by the smart, innovative design of our small house plans. Now, homes with a smaller footprint can have the same spacious, open feel and high-end features usually associated with much larger homes.

Results from a recent nationwide survey by the National Home Builders Association (NAHB) in conjunction with data compiled from the U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) indicates that 62 percent of prospective homeowners are interested in purchasing newly constructed homes that are approximately 2,000 square feet.

Complete results of the NAHB survey can be found in What Home Buyers Really Want, a study by the NAHB which outlines home buyers’ preferences for architectural style and size, interior layout and design, kitchen and bath features, window and door placement, accessibility and outdoor living spaces, smart home technology and energy efficiency.

“This survey is a great resource for building professionals, as it provides an inside look at the things home buyers really want or don’t want in their homes,” said Rose Quint, NAHB’s Assistant Vice President for Survey Research, and one of the study’s authors. “With the housing market beginning to recover, and more consumers in the position to purchase a home, it is more important than ever for builders to be armed with this information.”

Direct from the Designers, a company that specializes in popular house plans from the country's top architects and designers is on top of the trend, offering prospective buyers a wealth of choices when it comes to smaller homes.

"We're definitely seeing increased demand for our smaller house plans,” said Tammy Crosby, Chief Operating Officer of Direct from the Designers. “Consumers are starting to forgo features like the formal living room in order to conserve space while maintaining the same level of comfort."

This trend is projected to continue; a survey conducted by the National Association of Home Builders revealed that by 2015 builders expect the average new home size to be around 2,152 square feet.

Although the square footage of the average home has been shrinking, there's no shortage of features available in these scaled-down structures. Direct from the Designers offers hundreds of small house plans up to 2,000 square feet, each packed with luxurious features such as spacious kitchens and walk-in closets.

"Many buyers and builders are surprised by the smart, innovative design of our small house plans. Now, homes with a smaller footprint can have the same spacious, open feel and high-end features usually associated with much larger homes," commented Crosby.
