Conservation Resource Solutions, Inc. (CRS), a leading provider of web-based, Software-as-a-Service (SasS) tools and on-site metering solutions to utilities, power grid operators and demand response providers for dispatch, monitoring, and measurement of demand resources, announced today that it has successfully implemented its Automated Demand Response (Auto DR) solution in New England. Auto DR streamlines the communication and signaling of a demand response dispatch thereby enabling major energy consumers to respond more rapidly (within seconds) of a dispatch from a power grid operator, utility or demand response provider.    

CRS activated Auto DR in response to an ISO New England (ISO-NE) dispatch of certain demand response resources in the Connecticut Light and Power Company’s service territory on Monday July 16 at 1:30 p.m. ETA. ISO-NE is the bulk power system operator for the six-state New England region. CRS’s Auto DR Solution was integrated with Building Management Systems (BMS) at the energy consuming facilities. When ISO-NE dispatched the July 16th demand response event, CRS sent a real-time dispatch signal to the BMS, which was programmed to automatically reduce certain non-essential loads at the energy consuming facilities. Demand was shed instantaneously and seamlessly.

“Besides quicker and controllable response times, Auto DR provides other important benefits. Electric consuming facilities can participate in demand response without having to have technical personnel present to manually ramp down usage – they get paid for performance whether they have key personnel in the building at the time of a demand response event or not. With Auto DR, much less training and scheduling of availability of key facility personnel is required by both demand response providers and the consuming facility. Programmable software scripts also allow for more flexible and varied strategies to obtain load reductions during different times of the day and year, and for different types of demand response products. The end result is a more cost-effective, user-friendly demand response experience along with a high level of certainty by grid operators and demand response providers that demand response resources will consistently show up on time to maintain grid reliability,” said Leo Desjardins, CEO of CRS.
