National Endometriosis Awareness Month being recognized by Rocky Mountain Fertility Center with complimentary 15 minute phone consults.
Denver, CO (PRWEB) March 13, 2013
Endometriosis is a terrible disease affecting over 90 million women worldwide. It may lead to significant pelvic pain and potential problems with infertility along with massive emotional impact from lost work and loss of normal sexual functioning due to pain.
Rocky Mountain Fertility Center is recognizing this significant problem and National Endometriosis Awareness Month by offering complimentary 15 minute phone conversations with a Denver fertility clinic specialist to help those suffering learn about their condition and treatment options.
Endometriosis is not curable but with treatment, symptoms and fertility can be markedly improved. It’s important that patients see a doctor that understands endometriosis and the devastation it causes.
Usually, endometriosis affects women during their reproductive years and causes potential damage from the scarring in the fallopian tubes, scarring around the ovaries, along with hormonal changes and potential issues with ovarian function due to multiple surgeries on the ovaries. The cause of endometriosis is not well understood.
Dr. Deborah Smith, Medical Director at Rocky Mountain Fertility Center, related her experience with endometriosis, “So many times I hear patients tell me ‘I was told the pain was in my head’ or ‘I was told I would never be able to have children’. At Rocky Mountain Fertility Center we have many patients that have improvements in pain and achieve pregnancy after the diagnosis and treatment of endometriosis.”
Over half of women who suffer from endometriosis have some form of infertility. With proper treatment by infertility doctors in Colorado, however, most women are able to achieve pregnancy with treatment. For some, it may take surgery or fertility treatments in order to conceive.
It is extremely important that doctors listen carefully to patient symptoms and perform a comprehensive workup. Dr. Smith related a particular experience, “I had a patient once that saw 8-9 doctors to evaluate severe pains she was having in her belly button each month with her period. She was told numerous times the pain was in her head. She had trouble getting pregnant for over 5 years and adopted a child. I was suspicious that she had endometriosis."
She continued, "I told her we should probably check it out with surgery to confirm. After resection of the large endometrioma in her belly button and taking care of her pelvic endometriosis, she has gotten pregnant twice on her own without fertility therapy and had significant relief of her pain. These stories remind of how rewarding it is to treat patients with endometriosis because RMFC can have a significant impact on women’s lives for the better!”
