Avcor chose Deposco's inventory and warehouse management system for its rapid SaaS deployment model and quick return on investment (ROI)
Alpharetta, GA (Vocus) November 9, 2010
Avcor, a leading developer, manufacturer, and marketer of premium compression dressings, thermal compression bandages, and I.V. aids used in the institutional and consumer retail healthcare markets, has recently implemented Deposco's ShipForce Warehouse Management System (WMS). “Avcor chose Deposco’s inventory and warehouse management system for its rapid SaaS deployment model and quick return on investment (ROI),” says Carter Smith, Avcor’s President of Sales and Operations.
Deposco’s operational review of Avcor’s business and key performance indicators (KPIs) revealed an opportunity to achieve best-in-class status across all areas of Avcor’s warehouse operations by investing in fresh IT. While Avcor was operating at a best-in-class level in many areas, there were areas related to its rapid growth that were far too manual and resulted in redundant checks and balances to uphold Avcor’s passion for an error free customer experience. Deposco’s solution eliminates five separate manual quality assurance checkpoints and in doing so saves on labor costs. In addition, the Deposco business case identified potential savings in inventory carrying cost, which is critical to maximizing Avcor’s invested capital.
Scott Walker, Avcor’s Vice President of Operations indicates, “Deposco’s flexible service allowed us to configure the system to fit our business needs today, and have room to grow in the future, without worrying about costly upgrades.” This will allow Avcor to continue growing its business in a sustainable, cost-effective manner, while achieving best-in-class operational status on KPIs such as inventory turns, inventory carrying cost, and maximizing the number of on-time and complete shipments. Walker goes on to add, “Deposco was able to implement their service in under 90 days, which included configuring the system to meet our unique business requirements, integration to our accounting system and working with EDI.”
Chip Bowman, Avcor’s President of Finance & Administration, said, “Deposco has been able to create a seamless interface between ShipForce and our EDI order system, so we are able to significantly reduce order processing time, provide quicker information to our warehouse and better customer service—which is a key objective for Avcor this year.”
Overall, the Deposco Warehouse Management System (WMS) provides a flexible, feature-rich solution to automation and improved efficiency and productivity in Avcor’s operations. Ralph Widmaier, Executive Vice President for Deposco, adds, “As a result of UPS performing a detailed operational review and warehouse redesign, Avcor was in a position to layer in fresh technology over best-in-class processes to achieve operational efficiency and maximize the return on their investment.”
The UPS warehouse assessment identified several efficiencies that could be gained through a revised layout of Avcor’s warehouse. The redesign allowed Avcor to streamline processes, minimize travel time in the order picking process and utilize its space more effectively. Coupling UPS’s consulting with Deposco’s IT solution has permitted Avcor to position itself for the next 30 years of growth.
Widmaier states, “Deposco was a great fit for Avcor, because we have removed the ‘one size fits all’ constraint that was common in early SaaS technologies to adapt to our user’s unique requirements, business processes and evolving needs to ensure greater fit, higher impact results and greater competitive advantage for our customers.”
