Lumension Partnership Extends Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager Customers Centralized Deployment and Management of Policies and Data Leakage Prevention

Lumension®, the global leader in operational endpoint security, today announced it is extending its market-leading Device Control technology to Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 customers. Lumension® Device Control (formerly Sanctuary Device Control) is an industry proven solution that enforces enterprise-wide usage and enforcement of policies for removable devices such as USB thumb drives and media to help protect organizations from the loss of sensitive data, as well as the introduction of malware. With Lumension Device Control for System Center (DCSC), Microsoft customers can now leverage Configuration Manager 2007's powerful centralized management capabilities to deploy and enforce device control and data encryption policies in both physical and virtual environments. Customers also receive an increased return on their System Center investment by avoiding the substantial costs associated with procuring, deploying and managing a parallel device control solution infrastructure.

The Lumension DCSC seamlessly integrates into the Configuration Manager 2007 environment, eliminating the need for Microsoft customers to implement separate hardware and software to employ data security across their network. Lumension DCSC allows customers to use the Configuration Manager 2007 console and standard user interface to create, deploy and monitor very granular device control policies across groups and devices managed by the System Center. Policies will be continually enforced even when systems are not connected to the System Center environment. Additionally, organizations managing virtualized systems with Configuration Manager 2007 can use Lumension DCSC to enforce policy on the virtual USB and CD/DVD hardware. The same policy and enforcement capabilities are supported for both host (physical) and guest (virtual) systems.

"Data security continues to remain a top priority for organizations everywhere and we are excited to extend the tried and proven capabilities of Lumension Device Control into the Microsoft System Center environment to help organizations better protect data against leakage while continually enforcing policies across their IT environment," said Rich Hlavka, SVP Business Development, Lumension. "Customers have made it clear they want to leverage the power of Configuration Manager to implement more advanced security configurations. Lumension Device Control for System Center will enable them to add market-leading data protection and malware control capabilities quickly and efficiently across their existing System Center managed infrastructure."

"By centrally managing, deploying, enforcing and monitoring device access and file transfer policies via the already established Configuration Manager environment, Microsoft customers can significantly reduce additional implementation costs and quickly enhance their security policy enforcement," continued Hlavka.

"Microsoft System Center delivers the management and monitoring capabilities customers require for their IT operations, while providing an open environment for partners to extend the functionality to address additional needs within the complex enterprise environment," said Ryan O'Hara - Director, System Center Product Management, Microsoft. "Lumension has extended our management capabilities by creating a Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 integrated solution delivering data protection and data encryption for customers, areas that are critical for data security within the enterprise and provide added security for customers."

With Lumension DCSC, Microsoft customers can:

  •     Minimize data loss or theft by enforcing USB device usage and data encryption policies;
  •     Prevent unauthorized devices from connecting to endpoints within the organization;
  •     Automatically encrypt critical information on removable devices and media; and,
  •     Prevent introduction of malware via USB devices.

In conjunction with the enhanced capabilities, Lumension is also announcing a Lumension DCSC beta test program for interested Microsoft System Center customers and partners starting May 4, 2009. Product and beta test information is available at Lumension DCSC Beta. Lumension DCSC is currently scheduled for general availability in Q3 2009.
